Aguila - Cojute 90-89 The most exciting game of round 12 in the Liga MB took place in San Miguel. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Cojute (4-6) to seventh ranked Aguila (4-5) 90-89 on Monday evening. Aguila outrebounded Cojute 49-38 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Luis Almonte (187-88) who had a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds. American-Colombian forward Freddy Asprilla (208-88, college: Canisius) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 23 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNC Pembroke) who recorded 31 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Quincy Scates (198-89, college: Tenn Wesleyan) added 29 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aguila moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Brujos Izalco. Cojute at the other side dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Aguila is looking forward to face league's leader San Salvador at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cojute will play against Quezaltepeque (#3) and is hoping to win this game. Local Cojute (4-6) was outscored by seventh ranked Brujos Izalco (4-5) 99-63 on Tuesday night. Brujos Izalco outrebounded Cojute 54-31 including a 23-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Worth to mention a quality performance of swingman JaCarre Crockett (190-96, college: Philander Smith) who helped to win the game recording 30 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Marcus Faison (196-94, college: Salem St.) who added 25 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Four Brujos Izalco players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Quincy Scates (198-89, college: Tenn Wesleyan) with 29 points and point guard Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNC Pembroke) scored 19 points and 5 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Brujos Izalco moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Aguila. Loser Cojute dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. Brujos Izalco will meet league's second-placed Santa Tecla on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Cojute will play against Quezaltepeque (#3) and hope to secure a win. Visiting Quezaltepeque was defeated by Isidro Metapan in Metapan 104-86. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Quezaltepeque. Strangely Quezaltepeque outrebounded Isidro Metapan 47-35 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. Isidro Metapan players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. It was a good game for Dominican center Miguel Evangelista (210-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds. Naturalized Canadian Jose Colorado (188-90) contributed with 29 points and 5 assists for the winners. Cuban Jordanis Jaca (195-83) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and O Torres added 15 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Quezaltepeque. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Quezaltepeque's coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Isidro Metapan have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 6-4 record. Quezaltepeque at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Isidro Metapan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Quezaltepeque will play at home against Cojute and hopes to get back on the winning track.
